Under Cover

Angela Wichmann erforscht mit dieser Werkreihe malerisch das Sichtbare mit dem Unsichtbaren. Dabei ist die Überlappung von beiden zentral für das räumliche Geschehen. In einem Dialog mit Materialität, spielt die Malerin mit dem Gegensätzlichen von Vorder- und Hintergrund. Die transparente, nahezu greifbare Folie fungiert als ambivalente Membran: Sie verspricht Schutz und erzeugt zugleich Verunsicherung, indem sie Wahrnehmung verschiebt und verdeckt. Der Hintergrund steht in Spannung zu dieser Barriere und destabilisieren vertraute Raumvorstellungen. Wahrnehmung wird hier nicht bestätigt, sondern infrage gestellt – ein visuelles Feld, in dem Gewissheiten brüchig werden und sich Bedeutung ständig neu formiert.

The challenge of this series is to painterly translate the visible into the invisible. The overlap of the visible is central to the spatial process. In a dialogue with materiality, Angela Wichmann plays with the contrast between foreground and background. The transparent, almost tangible film functions as an ambivalent membrane: it promises protection while simultaneously creating uncertainty by shifting and obscuring perception. The background is in tension with this barrier, destabilizing familiar spatial concepts. Perception is not confirmed here, but questioned – a visual field in which certainties become fragile and meaning is constantly reformed.
