Art with the scent of the world
It’s summer in the city: after a hot night, the streets are now empty just before dawn. The lights of the billboards and lanterns are reflected on the warmed asphalt. The warm air still smells of music and life. This is how the artist Angela Wichmann describes the feeling that inspired her to create her art. The images mostly appear to have no visual acuity and hardly any clear outlines. The contours of the individual lights seem to blur. In her pictures, Angela Wichmann plays with the different levels of sharpness that arise in the bokeh effect. “Weltenduft” focuses on the nocturnal urban space, which is presented here in a distinctive way. The city landscapes are painted exclusively with oil paints and composed in a slow process, in several, sometimes transparent and fine layers. The depth effect and the bright glow of the light in the darkness are the same for all of them. Angela Wichmann lives and works in Berlin, but her art is flavored with the scent of the whole world. Viewers are invited to contribute their own thoughts and emotions and thus form a personal connection.
